United States Auto Club Midget Car participants will begin their quest for the 2000 USAC Regional Dirt-Track Midget Car Championship June 17 at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. Five events at three tracks comprise the preliminary schedule for the series which is designed to fill the void created by the closing of the 16th Street Speedway in Indianapolis, Ind.
Lincoln Park will host three of the five races, including September 1 and 2 finales, while the Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway hosts a July 8 race and the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway hosts a July 15 event. The July 8 Kokomo and September 2 Lincoln Park races are also USAC MCI WorldCom National events, awarding points toward both championships.
"We are pleased to announce these initial events in what we expect to develop into an exciting regional dirt-track championship," said USAC President/CEO John Capels. "Following the closing of the 16th Street Speedway, a number of our participants were idle awaiting word of this new series concept. Our partners at Putnamville, Kokomo and Lawrenceburg have stepped up to the plate to offer these competitors a series which should be economically efficient as well as monetarily rewarding. We look forward to series expansion in the near future."
Feature events for each of the races announced to date will be 30 laps, with the exception of the finale, which is 100 laps.
