ASA: Garvey Grabs Pole for ACTIONLINE 300

Becomes the first repeat pole winner of season

MONTGOMERY, Ala.--Mike Garvey of Lakeville, Minn. captured the pole Saturday night for Sundays ASA ACDelco Series ACTIONLINE 300 at Montgomery Motor Speedway. Qualifying for the event was delayed for over four hours when the track began to deteriorate during ASA practice.

The pole was the second of the year and the career sixth for Garvey, who drives the Tecumseh Chevrolet. Garvey turned a lap of 19.894 sec. (90.480 mph) late in the qualifying session. Brandon Sperling, of Mooresville, N.C., recorded the second fastest tim e of the night, turning his lap in the Crookston Poured Walls Chevrolet at 19.901 sec. (90.488 mph)..

Ohios Gary St. Amant had the third-fastest lap of the session, finishing with a time of 19.913 sec. (90.393 mph). Wisconsins Kevin Cywinski qualified fourth (19.954 sec.) with rookie Scott Wimmer coming home fifth with a time of 19.969 sec. The top-20 q ualifiers were locked in on their qualifying times, with the remainder of the field being filled out through the 100-lap qualifying race.

Under the extremely warm track conditions, pieces of the asphalt started coming apart in turn one during the second practice session. Many members of the ASA community, including drivers, crew members, officials and track workers pitched in to help fix th e track, which took approximately eight hours to repair.

Festivities for the ACTIONLINE 300 will get under way on Sunday, with the exclusive ASA on-track autograph session beginning at 10:30 a.m. Pre-race ceremonies starting at 11:45 a.m., with the ACTIONLINE 300 going green at 12:30 p.m.

Tickets are $25 in the reserved sections and $20 in the general admission area and are still available at the track office.
