INDY 500: Jason Leffler and UnitedAuto Group Team Up for 2000 Indianapolis 500

INDIANAPOLIS: UnitedAuto Group, Inc.(NYSE: UAG) will sponsor Treadway Racing's entry for Jason Leffler in the 84th running of the Indianapolis 500 scheduled for Sunday, May 28, 2000.

The joint announcement was made today by Fred Treadway, president of Treadway Racing, LLC. and Roger S. Penske, chairman and CEO of UnitedAuto Group, Inc. (NYSE: UAG). UAG, (www.unitedauto.com), is one of the nation's largest retail automotive dealership companies with 110 new car franchises located in 16 states and Puerto Rico.

Leffler will be at the wheel of the UnitedAuto Group Special, a Treadway Racing-prepared G-Force chassis powered by an Oldsmobile Aurora V8, as he makes his first attempt to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 during time trials at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 20-2l, 2000.

Leffler, 24, from Long Beach, California, became the first driver in 37 years to win three consecutive USAC National Midget Car titles in 1999. Over the course of that season, he boasted 11 USAC feature wins across the various series, including the coveted "Turkey Night" title.

He has made two starts for Treadway Racing in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series (l999 Walt Disney World and 2000 Las Vegas 300) and logged hundreds of test miles for the Team. He is currently running a full-time schedule in the NASCAR Busch Series for team owner Joe Gibbs.

Fred Treadway, whose Team won the l997 Indianapolis 500 with Arie Luyendyk driving, said, " It is an honor to represent UnitedAuto Group and Roger Penske in this years 500. I believe we can give UAG a terrific start and Jason Leffler certainly has the skill and perseverance to take the UAG Indy car the distance."
