Round 10 of 34 in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series
Fontana, CA
Qualifying position - 29th
Time - 39.329 seconds
In what turned out to be an interesting qualifying session for many drivers with times jumping both up and down from practice, Robby Gordon was no exception. After consistently posting times in the sub 39-second range during practice, Gordon posted a time of 39.329 seconds, good for 29th place in his Menards/Duracell Ford, which for this weekend's race is sporting a bright-orange paint scheme promoting Universal Studios' movie release of The Flintstones-Viva Rock Vegas.
Quotes:
ROBBY GORDON "That folks... was the slowest lap we ran all day. Why? Hmmmm. There was a little bit of wind which probably hurt us, but we're scratching our heads a bit right now. The weekend started off great, we rolled off the trailer fast, but more than that we were able to duplicate and improve on the testing times we ran last week. On the qualifying lap I had a wiggle coming off the gas in turns one and two, and I might have been a little conservative because of that. Still, I figured we'd run close, if not better than we ran in practice which was in the high 38's. The good news is that we know we have the speed, and based on the way qualifying shook down, we probably won't make another attempt at qualifying tomorrow which frees us up to spend the morning working on race setups."
