Las Vegas, NV: USAC and NASCAR Busch Series standout Jason Leffler is trying his luck for a second time this year at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway-this time, in an open-wheel Treadway Racing - Vertex/Cunningham Racing entry. This will be Leffler's second Indy Racing Northern Light Series event and the first of the 2000 season.
Entered in the #55 2000 G-Force/Aurora/Firestone car, Leffler's return to Treadway Racing is a welcome one. The two have held a long-time friendship beginning in 1998 when Leffler signed his first open-wheel testing contract with the team and participated in all of the season's tire testing. Always impressed by his abilities behind the wheel, the team assisted him last week as he passed his Rookie Orientation Program at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a Treadway Racing engineered car.
During his IRL seat time over the course of the past two years, Leffler has logged over 1200 miles at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in a Treadway G-Force. Overall he has run 3000 miles under the team's guidance.
One of only three racers ever to win three straight USAC National Midget Championships, Leffler is currently driving for Joe Gibbs Racing in the #18 MBNA sponsored Pontiac, competing in all events on the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series schedule. He is currently 31st in the points and a strong candidate for the Raybestos Rookie of the Year honor.
Leffler had raced at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway previously this year on March 4th at the Sam's Town 300 in his Busch entry. He started ninth on the grid and finished in 28th position.
