NASCAR WCUP: North Carolina Couple Has Dream Day At the Race Track

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- Lynn and Dan Everhart of Greensboro, N.C., lived every NASCAR Winston Cup fan's fantasy at Martinsville (Va.) Speedway as honorary pit crew members for the No. 25 MichaelHoligan.com team at the April 9th Goody's Body Pain 500.
The Everharts entered MichaelHoligan.com's "Win a New Home" sweepstakes. The first-year NASCAR sponsor is giving one lucky race fan a brand new $250,000 home this year. As part of the contest, registrants also are entered in a drawing to be an honorary pit crew member or receive VIP race tickets.
"We didn't know what to expect when we were notified about winning," said Lynn Everhart. Although both Everharts are huge NASCAR Winston Cup fans, neither one had attended a modern-era Winston Cup race. "It was a blast! It was an incredible day. We've been telling our friends about it and they're all so jealous."
"I remember seeing Richard Petty in the 60s," said her husband Dan. "But that was a long time ago and things were very different. We watch the races on television all the time, but our schedules don't usually permit us to attend a race."
The Everharts were given a private tour of the infield garage and pit area prior to the race, met team members and watched pre-race preparations. They also attended the driver's meeting.
"Everybody associated with the MichaelHoligan.com Racing team was so nice," said Dan Everhart. "When we were told we would be able to attend the race, we had no idea we'd actually be in the pits for the whole race. We were right in the middle of everything."
"We were so impressed with the professionalism of the team," said Lynn Everhart. "Each member was a specialist. During every pit stop, things were so well orchestrated. It was amazing."
And the best moment of the day for the Everharts -- "We were walking through the pits," said Dan Everhart, "...and stopped for a minute, looked up into the stands full of people and laughed. My wife said, 'They're only getting to watch the race. We're a part of it!'"
