Concord, NC - Eleven-year-old Tyler Green, son of NASCAR Busch Series driver Mark Green, is scheduled to make his oval racing debut on April 21 in the Bandolero Bandit division at Concord Motorsports Park in Concord, North Carolina. A third generation racer, Tyler will drive the No. 63 Exxon Superflo Motor Oil entry built by his father in the 2000 season.
The Concord resident has limited racing experience. He competed for two seasons in a junior dragster and also in several karting events.
"I've been looking forward to this for a while," said Tyler. "Dad and I started building this car a few months ago. Right now, I'm just looking to have fun, but as I get more experienced I'll decide if this is what I want to do."
Tyler follows in the footsteps of his grandfather David Sr, who competed in drag racing for many years, father Mark and uncles David and Jeff, who all compete in the NASCAR Busch Series. His father and two uncles will be attending his debut and as expected will have much advice for the youngster.
"They've all told me to just stay out of trouble and finish," said Tyler. "That's what my goal is for the first few races. Everyone in my family has been successful in racing so their advice is probably pretty good."
Starting on June 13, Tyler will compete each Tuesday evening in the Wendy's Summer Shootout Series at Lowe's Motor Speedway.
"This is something he was asking to do," said Mark, driver of the No. 63 Exxon Superflo Motor Oil Chevrolet in the NASCAR Busch Series. "Both his Mom and I aren't putting any pressure on him. I know how hard it is to be successful in racing. If he likes it, we will see where it goes. If he doesn't, we will try something different."
