Excite@Home To Field Microsoft Mouse In "Internetapolis 500": Internet industry giant Excite@Home has donated a Microsoft mouse painted in the distinctive red, black and silver livery of the #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car to the "Tails of the City" charity auction benefiting Destination Foundation. Over 100 celebrities, Internet gurus, and artists have creatively interpreted Microsoft mice, which were officially unveiled on April 18th and will be displayed at San Francisco's Metreon (a Sony Entertainment Center) for a month prior to the May 18th auction.
Excite@Home's entry, titled "Internetapolis 500", will compete against mice designed by celebrities such as Bill Gates, Matt Groening, and Diane Feinstein in the categories of "Most Cheesy", "Most Dot-Comical", "Most Tail-Spinning", "Most Tail-Telling", and "People's Choice Award". Destination Foundation is a non-profit organization that grants dream trips to men and women in the San Francisco Bay Area gay community who have been diagnosed with a life-threatening illness, are permanently disabled, and are in financial need.
If He Can Make It There, He Can Make It Anywhere: Eddie Cheever Jr. was the star attraction at an Infiniti dealer meeting held in conjunction with the New York Auto Show earlier this week. Cheever, whose #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car is the only Infiniti-powered entry in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series, met with Infiniti dealers from across North America and signed countless autographs in his whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps.
Top Ten Finish For Cheever At Talladega IROC Event: Eddie Cheever Jr. exchanged his #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Car for a Pontiac Firebird last weekend when he competed in the second round of the 2000 True Value International Race of Champions (IROC) Series at Talladega Superspeedway. Cheever battled against NASCAR's best as well as fellow Indy Racing competitors Greg Ray and Mark Dismore on the ultra-fast 2.66-mile Alabama oval. Cheever led eight laps of the thrilling event before falling out of the all-important draft. He finished tenth, one place higher than he finished at the IROC season opener at Daytona in February.
Viva Las Vegas: The next stop for Eddie Cheever Jr. and the #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Team - currently ranked sixth overall in the Indy Racing Northern Light Series standings - is the Vegas Indy 300 on Saturday, April 22. Not only has Cheever always run well in Indy Racing events at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, but the Formula One veteran who has competed in more Grand Prix races (132) than any other American has also enjoyed F1 success in Las Vegas. Cheever finished third in the United States Grand Prix at Las Vegas in 1982.
Testing, Testing: The #51 Excite@Home Indy Race Team, third fastest at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway open test in mid-April, will return to the Brickyard at the end of the month for a three-day test prior to the first day of practice for the Indianapolis 500 on May 13th.
Primary Sponsorship of the #51 Indy Car comes from Excite@Home. The company is based in Redwood City, California, at the heart of Silicon Valley. Associate Sponsors of Team Cheever include Indy Promotional Products, netoy.com, Menards, Ceramiche Ragno, Infiniti, Firestone, Bosch and Pennzoil.
