DETROIT- Championship Auto Racing Teams today released its list of affiliate stations on the CART Radio Network for the 2000 season.
CART announced restructuring of its radio network in late February. Under the new format, CART brought operation of its radio network in-house and secured a relationship with Clear Channel Sports to act as the company's programming and distribution partner for the CART Radio Network. Clear Channel is currently the largest radio group in the United States.
Since the restructuring, Clear Channel has been working to secure affiliate stations for the radio network and the list unveiled today reveals the stations that have committed, to this point, to network programming for the 2000 season.
"The overall strategy of the CART Radio Network is to get complete race coverage in all of CART's core racing markets," said Keith Allo, Vice President of Broadcasting for CART. "We feel in order for the CART Radio Network to reap the maximum benefit for our series we need to give our fans a consistent product week in and week out."
CART's identified core markets include the 17 FedEx Championship Series North American race markets plus Las Vegas, Phoenix and Indianapolis.
The 33 stations included on the CART Radio Network affiliate list all have access to the full compliment of radio network programming. This includes the daily one-minute CART update feature, Friday night's hour-long CART Hotline Show, which showcases the personalities of the FedEx Championship Series, as well as in-depth flag-to-flag raceday coverage.
While the current station affiliate list represents a good start for 2000, both CART and Clear Channel will continue to expand the CART Radio Network in the coming weeks.
"With the expertise and assistance of Clear Channel, it's only a matter of time before the CART Radio Network reaches coast-to-coast throughout North America," Allo said. "Because CART is relatively new to the game of managing a radio network, acquiring affiliates is really an ongoing process."
"We at Clear Channel Sports are delighted to be involved with CART and the FedEx Championship Series on the production and distribution of the CART Radio Network," said Tom Stevens of Clear Channel. "We will expand the reach and stature of the radio network in the future because the racing and the personalities in the series are so compelling and the radio product itself is first-rate."
