ASA: St. Amant Holds onto Points Lead Heading to Famed Hickory

PENDLETON, Ind.--In come of the coldest weather in recent memory, ASA ACDelco Series rookie Scott Wimmer lit up the field, leading the final 122 laps for the young Wisconsin drivers career first career win. Heading into the third race of the year, the Jani-King 300, Wimmer looks to continue his success, while 1998 ASA National Champion Gary St. Amant looks to hold onto his slim point lead.

St. Amant, who won the season-opening event in Florida, grabbed a fifth place finish in Georgia, holding onto his point lead over second place Kevin Cywinski. St. Amant now sits 10 points ahead of Cywinski, after Cywinski collected his second top-10 of the year, finishing sixth at Lanier National Speedway.

California native Brandon Sperling continued his strong early season, moving up to third in the point standings, driving the Crookston Poured Walls #40 Chevrolet. After two impressive runs, including sitting on the outside pole in Lakeland, Sperling is 62 points back of St. Amant.

With 54 victories between them, Mike Miller and Butch Miller both broke into the top five in points after second and third places finishes in Georgia respectively. M. Miller, who finished a few points shy of winning the 1999 Championship, trials by 80 points, while the three-time ASA National Champion B. Miller sits just one more point behind.

Robbie Pyle takes over the point lead in the chase for Pat Schauer Memorial Rookie of the Year honors. Mark E. Dismore is only seven points back in second place, while Larry Foyt drops to third, trailing by 20 points. Wimmer and Philip Kranefuss round out the top five rookies.

The ASA ACDelco Series will debut at Hickory Motor Speedway on Friday, April 21 with practice beginning at 9:30 a.m. Eastern. ASA qualifications take place at 4 p.m. and the 100-lap qualifier race will take green at 8 p.m. On Saturday, April 22, the exclusive ASA on-track autograph session begins at 11 a.m. with pre-race ceremonies starting at 12:15 p.m. The Jani-King 300 will go green at 9 p.m.

Tickets for the Jani-King 300 are $25 in the reserved sections and $20 in the general admission areas. Children 12 years of age or younger will be admitted free with a paying adult in the general admission seating section.
