A LOT OF HISTORY AT NASHVILLE SPEEDWAY USA
![]() |
"This track has a lot of history for me personally. I saw my first Winston Cup race here when I was 17 or 18 years old. Michael Waltrip and I drove down here to watch Darrell race. I remember thinking how big the place was."
"My career got a big boost here at Nashville. In 1988, I was building cars for Day Enterprises. That was the year Bobby Allison got hurt at Pocono. A driver named Mike Alexander, who was racing one of the cars we had built, was tabbed to fill in for Bobby. On the weekends that there were duel Cup and BUSCH races, Mike asked me to practice and qualify his BUSCH car for him, then he would come in and race it. I did that here at Nashville, so that was when I first started putting miles on around this place."
"Im sad that this is the last race here. This has been a great track for NASCAR racing, and for racing in general. But it would be great to win the last race here because that would be the final chapter if its history."
RACING AT NASHVILLE SPEEDWAY USA
"Its kind of like Bristol in that it gets pretty crowded out there. If you are in the wrong place, it can ruin your day in a hurry."
" The groove here is at the bottom, and you have to be careful because there is a dip between turns one and two, and there is a bump in two. Tire wear is also an issue. Its a little abrasive here, sort of like Rockingham, but not as bad."
For every lap David finishes at Nashville, 10 cents will be donated to the March of Dimes in Kingsport, TN by the AFG Glass corporate office. One individual from the AFG corporate offices, Greenland located in Church Hill, TN and the Blue Ridge Plant located in Kingsport, TN who places a pledge for the lap sponsor program, will be selected as an honorary crew member for the August 25th Bristol Busch Race. March of Dimes raises money to fund research and raise awareness about birth defects in unborn children.
ON LAST WEEKS STRONG PERFORMANCE
"I feel more confident than ever. I think the team is coming around, and we are right where we need to be."
A FAMILY AFFAIR
This weekend will be a family affair for the Greens. Davids mother will be in attendance for the first time this season. And due to Nashville being fairly close to Davids hometown of Owensboro, KY, the Greens expect between 50-75 family and friends to be in the stands.
Both David (95) and Jeff (99) Green have won a NASCAR Busch Series race at Nashville Speedway USA.
"It always puts a little extra pressure on you when your family and friends are at a race. I guess the best way to make sure Im the first Green to cross the finish line is to be the first car across period!"
Davids "sponsor family" will also be racing at Nashville. John Litzinger, AFGs Executive vice-president will be assisting Mike Campbell in Late Model qualifying. If Mike makes the race, David, crew chief Jay Guy and team manager Clyde McLeod will be of assistance in the pits on Friday night.
WIND TUNNEL TESTING
As part of the alliance between Cicci-Welliver Racing and Hendrick Motorsports, David Greens 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo that he will race at Talladega was in the wind tunnel in Detroit, MI, this week.
David and his Cicci-Welliver team will also be working with Ricky Hendrick and Hendrick Motorsports as he tries to qualify for this weeks race.
