* Ward Burton, who qualified the No. 22 Polaris Pontiac Grand Prix in the 27th position for today's race, handed over the driving duties prior to the race to fellow Winston Cup competitor Kenny Wallace. Burton crashed Friday during practice for Winston Cup qualifying and decided to withdraw from the Busch race to allow some bruises and a sore left foot to heal heading into Sunday's 500-mile Winston cup event.
JEFF PURVIS, NO. 4 PORTER CABLE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX (10th):
"The race car, really from the last practice, was pretty good. But we struggled qualifying and we struggled early on in the race because of something we did before the race started. We took the tape off (the grill of) that car and it killed it. I went from running pretty good to running real bad. These Pontiacs already need some more nose on them right now, and then to take tape off it just kills it. It was just a struggle all day. At the end our car was just a little bit tight. But I really don't know what else to do to it. We really didn't make many adjustments all day long because you're just about wide open the whole way around there. You don't really know what else to do, short of maybe changing gears. I believe I could have run a little lower gear and been a whole lot better off."
