PHOENIX - Indy Racing Northern Light Series driver Buzz Calkins was released Sunday night from St. Josephs Hospital in Phoenix after a crash earlier in the day during the MCI WorldCom Indy 200, said Dr. Henry Bock, Indy Racing League director of medical services.

Calkins was unhurt in the accident, which took place on Lap 45 of the 200-lap race at Phoenix International Raceway won by Buddy Lazier. He was conscious, alert and responding to commands when transported via ground to the hospital for evaluation after complaining of back pain.

Calkins was scored in 23rd place in the Bradley Food Marts/Sav-O-Mat Dallara/Oldsmobile/Firestone.
