CHARLOTTE, N.C. (March 16, 2000) -- The sixth Annual Kyle Petty Charity Ride Across America has finalized its route and is heading to a city near you.

Beginning April 30, the journey will make a parade lap at California Speedway in Fontana before heading east, making seven stops along the way. The group will stay over in Prescott, Ariz.; Durango, Colo.; Amarillo, Tex.; Tulsa, Okla.; Memphis, Tenn.; Charleston, W.Va.; and Richmond, Va., before traveling to the Petty Farm in Trinity, N.C., on May 7.

Monies raised from this year's ride will go to The Hole in Wall Gang Camps founded for Kids by Paul Newman, which provides a camp atmosphere in six locations for seriously ill children. In addition, the ride will benefit children's hospitals along the route and the Winston Cup Racing Wives Auxiliary (WAXX) Trust Fund, which provides medical assistance and financial support to all Winston Cup drivers and crew members in the event of severe injury or tragedy.

"Even though this is the sixth year, I get excited every time we start planning the next one," Petty said. "I have a lot of fun riding across the country, and there is no better way to raise money for some great causes. I'm especially excited this year because of the national charity that's going to benefit. The Hole in the Wall Gang Camps are a great organization. Dad, Adam and I visited the one in Florida, and it was an amazing place for very sick kids to spend time with their families and just be kids. I'd really like to bring one to North Carolina. So, that's my newest project."

The week-long trek will be topped off with a concert held at the Petty Farm Sun., May 7. Entertainment for the finale will be provided by country music artists Sawyer Brown and Toby Keith. A variety of NASCAR souvenir trailers and simulators will be on hand for the event and everyone is welcome. Tickets for the concert can be purchased from Ticketmaster for $20 before the event and $30 at the gate on Sunday. Children under six are admitted free.
