SCCA: $37000 'Owners Championship' on tap for BFGoodrich Tires Trans Am Series

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--High Tech Performance Trailers, Inc., the Official Trailer of SCCA Pro Racing, and the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series have teamed up to create an Owners' Championship, commencing with the 2000 season.

The BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series Owners' Championship Presented by High Tech Performance Trailers will offer $17,500 in cash payouts and $20,000 in product certificates to the top-three finishing teams in 2000, with the winning team owner claiming $10,000 in cash and $10,000 in product certificates.

The Owners' Championship Presented by High Tech Performance Trailers was created to reward team owners who consistently contribute to the success of the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series. The championship, determined by car number regardless of the driver, will be based on total Owners' Championship points accumulated throughout the season, with points awarded at each event based on long-term participation, on-track performance, marketing, promotion and promoter presence.

"Thanks to the involvement of High Tech Trailers, we're able to initiate the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series' Owners' Championship for our teams," said John Clagett, SCCA Pro Racing Vice President. "The BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series has long been recognized as having a close-knit community of teams, and the new Owners' Championship offers us the opportunity to recognize and reward those teams for their long-term participation, promotional and marketing activities that are the foundation of the Trans-Am Series success."

In addition to the first-place payout, the Owners' Championship runner-up will receive $5,000 cash and $6,000 in product certificates, and third place earns $2,500 cash and $4,000 in product certificates. Top-three Owners' Championship teams also receive BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series' Owners' Championship Presented by High Tech Performance Trailers trophies.

"There are a number of reasons we choose to compete in the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Seriesthe camaraderie and competition, the tradition, the balanced mix of venues as well as the excitement that's brewing with all the recent positive changes that have taken place," said Frank Cioppettini, Team Owner who's Victoria Motorsports fields Willy T. Ribbs, Stu Hayner and Cioppettini himself. "I know this Owners' Championship has been a long time in the works, and with the backing of High Tech Trailers, this is the right time for the Trans-Am Series to recognize owners that have made this series what it is today, and what it will be in the future."
