USAC: Stevie Reeves to drive for Stewart/East at Nazareth

Stevie Reeves of Huntersville, N.C., the 2-time USAC MCI WorldCom National Midget Car Champion who spent several years competing on the NASCAR Grand National circuit, returns to the USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet Series April 7-8 for the 100-mile event at the Nazareth (PA) Speedway.

Stevie will drive the #9 Team ASE/Wynn's Beast entry fielded by NASCAR Winston Cup "Rookie of the Year" Tony Stewart and noted car builder Bob East of Indianapolis, Ind. Last year, the East Enterprises entry won the Nazareth race, driven by 1998 Coors Light Silver Bullet champion Jason Leffler.

Reeves won the MCI WorldCom USAC National Midget Championship for Bob East and car owner Steve Lewis in 1992 and 1993, then pursued a career in the NASCAR stock car ranks from 1994-1998. The Nazareth race will be the first time he and East have joined forces since the 1994 "Copper World Classic" Midget car race at Phoenix, Ariz.

"I'm excited," says Reeves. "Nazareth is definitely a driver's track and I think we have a good chance to win the race. I ran the Busch cars there three times but I don't think anybody has ever figured out just how many turns there are. It's a hard track to pick out reference points, so that's where my experience there will benefit me."

In 1998 he passed an Indy Racing League test in July, then finished 10th in the IRL race at the Lowe's Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. in his only IRL start.

Stevie made his USAC Coors Light Silver Bullet debut in 1990 and in 1991 earned his best point ranking, a ninth. He also posted his only Silver Bullet victory in 1991, at the DuQuoin (IL) State Fairgrounds.

Since 1994 he has two Silver Bullet appearances, at Gateway International Raceway near St. Louis in 1998 and at Phoenix International Raceway last year. A throttle failure forced him out at Gateway and he recorded an 11th-place finish in last year's Copper World Classic" at Phoenix.

Brian Tyler of Parma, Mich. leads the Coors Light Silver Bullet Series standings after the first two races of the 2000 season. He won the series opener in January at Walt Disney World Speedway near Orlando, Fla. And finished second behind Leffler in the "Copper World Classic" at Phoenix, Ariz. earlier this month.
