NHRA: Team JEG'S Continues To Look Strong

The first day of professional qualifying marks the start of the second race of the 2000 NHRA season. The JEG'S Mail Order Team looks to be ready for the task of winning.

Both yellow and black JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass' took on the right lane for the first of four scheduled qualifying sessions. Troy Coughlin was in the first pair of Pro Stock cars to take on the quarter mile battle field in the desert. Troy launched off of the starting line and raced straight down the middle of the groove in the right lane. Troy's run set the bench mark at a 6.941 at 198.76 mph, which put him in the No. 4 spot by the end of the first session.

Troy commented, "It's a good feeling to run well right out of the trailer, it shows that everyone on the JEG'S Team did their job."

Jeg Coughlin and his JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass lined up next to Warren Johnson in the first session, who Jeg beat in the final round of the season opener three weeks ago at the AutoZone Winternationals. Coughlin showed that the men in yellow and black have a good handle on the setup. Jeg rocketed down the middle of the groove and got to the finishline first in this classic match-up.

Jeg landed in the No. 5 position after the first session (6.942 @ 198.47 mph). Jeg stated, "That run will give us a great baseline to tune from for the rest of the weekend. Having usable data on raceday will make the difference between winning and losing."

During the second session the Jeg and Troy tackled the dreaded left lane. The first session gave a vast majority of the drivers a problem who ran the left lane.

Troy again was the first of the two JEG'S Mail Order Olds Cutlass' to roll onto the quarter mile battle field. Troy improves his qualifying time slightly (6.940 @ 198.76 mph), but slipped to the No. 9 position and has two qualifying sessions remaining to improve before raceday.

Troy noted, "We could have been a little bit more aggressive with the left lane. However, we did not want to go too far because we wanted to make a competitive pass from start to finish. I think that we are looking good so far and I expect to come out strong tomorrow."

Jeg took off from the starting line and looked strong. The yellow and black JEG'S machine raced down the track and marched up to the No. 3 spot by the end of the session. Jeg ran an impressive 6.921 @ 199.55 mph in the left lane.

Jeg explained, "We are not trying to reinvent the wheel. Our goal is to make complete runs during all four qualifying sessions and gain as much data as we can as a team and the rest will take care of itself."
