SCCA: Glacier Bear Racing to field Marybeth Harrison in 2000 BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--Marybeth Harrison, of Vancouver, B.C., is slated to be the first female driver in the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series since 1994, piloting the No. 07 Chevrolet Corvette for Glacier Bear Racing.

Glacier Bear Racing will make its BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series debut in 2000, with team owner Jerry Moskel having previously campaigned in late model stock cars.

"We wanted to participate in the Trans-Am Series mainly because of SCCA Pro Racings commitment to equality among competitors and its strong family values, dating back to its original inception," said Moskel.

Harrison, 34, won the 1998 Canadian Formula Drivers Association (CFDA) championship, capturing five consecutive wins during the seven race season, and was a PPG Pace Car driver in 1998 and 1999. Harrison is also an instructor with ProFormance Race Drivers School and is active in the Racing Against Drugs school program.

"Im really excited about making the move to the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series and having the opportunity to drive on many of North Americas premier tracks," said Harrison. "While there will be a lot of firsts for this team, Im optimistic about what well be able to accomplish."

George Reggio will be crew chief for the Glacier Bear Racing entry, a C-5 Corvette built by Lou Gigliotti. Reggio is owner of the Maryland Performance Center in Gaithersburg, Md., and has been involved in NHRA engine and chassis development for the past two decades.

The last female to compete in the Trans-Am Series was Deborah Gregg, who finished eighth at the 1994 Road Atlanta event.
