ASA: Discount Auto Parts to Sponsor ACDelco Series Event at Lanier National Speedway

PENDLETON, Ind.--American Speed Association (ASA)
officials announced today that Discount Auto Parts will serve as the
entitlement sponsor for the ASA ACDelco Series inaugural visit to Lanier
National Speedway April 8 in Gainesville,
Ga. The Discount Auto Parts 300 will be the second race in the 2000 ASA
ACDelco Series schedule and will be televised live on TNN Sports at 9 p.m.
Eastern.
The Discount Auto Parts 300 entitlement is part of an agreement designed to allow ASA series sponsor ACDelco to enhance client image through national exposure. The agreement provides Discount Auto Parts the opportunity to place their name on the race and t ie in retail driven in-store promotions around the greater-Atlanta area.
"We are pleased to have Discount Auto Parts as a promotional partner," said ASA Vice President of Sales & Marketing Mark Gundrum. "Discount Auto Parts will benefit from this highly visible event, that will allow them to bring their guests, clients and cust omers to the race and serve as a tremendous sales promotion opportunity."
Discount Auto Parts is one of the southeasts leading specialty retailers and suppliers of automotive replacement parts, maintenance items and accessories to both the do-it-yourself consumers and professional mechanics and service technicians. The company currently operates over 600 stores located throughout Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, Alabama, Louisiana and South Carolina.
Several ASA drivers have raced at the .375-mile, 16-degree banked oval, including Rookie of the Year candidate Wayne Willard of Georgia. "Its a compact track that makes for good, tight racing," said Willard, a former late model track champion. "For real c lose racing on a smooth surface, it is a track that fans like."
The Discount Auto Parts 300 will mark ASAs return to Georgia. On six previous visits, four at Peach State Speedway and two at Atlanta Motor Speedway, winners have included the late Alan Kulwicki, Rusty Wallace, Jim Sauter, Steve Carlson, Mike Miller of Ge orgia and Mike Garvey. Miller and Garvey are both scheduled to compete in the 300-lap showdown.
The 20-race 2000 ASA ACDelco Series kicks off its season March 26 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla. Along with Lanier, ASA will make its initial visits to Chicago Motor Speedway, Gateway International Speedway, Hickory Motor Speedway and Mon tgomery Speedway.
