Daytona Beach, FL. - Jimmy Britts' goal of winning at Daytona International Speedway will have to wait for 2001. The Orange Park Florida Driver spent 79 of the scheduled 80 lap Discount Auto Parts 200 watching the race from the pits after a major crash on the first turn of lap #2. The crash sent 18 of 42 cars to the pits, with 15 unable to continue the race. Thankfully, other than a leg injury to Zach Brewer, all of the drivers were uninjured.
The week began with the #92 NAPA Auto Parts NASCAR Goody's Pontiac practicing with 55 other cars for qualifying. After posting practice speeds strong enough to qualify for the race, the racing luck bug took a bite out of the NAPA car. The engine lost power during the 2 lap qualifying run. A burned spark plug wire left Britts starting as the first provisional in 38th spot. "I was extremely disappointed in our qualifying effort after starting 12th last year. When you start from that far back in the field you have to hope you can work quickly through the field before you get caught up in the big crash that always seems to happen here. We'll pack up the NAPA Pontiac and get ready for a big show in Montgomery Alabama," Britts commented as he left the infield medical facility. The Montgomery race is Saturday, March 18th.
Britts was the 1999 Goody's Dash NAPA Filters Rookie of the Year, the 1995 NASCAR Slim Jim All Pro Series Rookie of the Year and the 1996 Florida Pro Series Champion. Jimmy will compete for this year's NASCAR Goody's Dash Championship.
