(Concord, NC)-- Veteran David Green and AFG Glass Team 34 will truly be the essence of the word "team" at the NASCAR Busch Series race at Daytona International Speedway. While Green will be heavily relying on the teams experience for the optimum setup for qualifying, they will be depending on his driving expertise to be in the front when the checkered flag waves.

"The team pays a really big role in whether you make the race or not. I won the pole in Daytona my first time out. I think that shows experience during qualifying doesnt really get you much. It is really important to have the car setup right. Thankfully, Cicci-Welliver Racing and the 34 car has typically done well on restrictor plate races such as Daytona in the past." While Daytona has stayed the same, the cars and rules have drastically changed.

"In years past, its been quite a bit different," said Green. "The cars used to be in totally different configurations for qualifying and racing, but starting last year-- and even more so this year-- the rules are such that we are qualifying in race trim. This is good! You can setup the car to qualify and race with it as well. The trick is to get your car to run by itself. That is the key for Daytona." Though qualifying can get you in the race, it cant help you finish in a good position or at all for that matter.

"I am not going to say that I am going to do this or I am going to do that. That kind of predicting will come back and bite you," said Green. "I can say that I will be really disappointed if we arent a contender or if we arent in the top five-- not only for Daytona, but also for the entire season.

"The last three times I ran a full NASCAR Busch Series schedule my teams were always contenders. With Cicci-Welliver Racing, one of the best teams in the NASCAR Busch Series garage, I feel that I have got as good of an opportunity now as I did back then. Actually, I think we could even do a notch or two better. Plus, AFG has stepped-up their program to a full season, and with this being the first time they have been to Daytona, I hope to make it really special for them."

Greens Chevrolet Monte Carlo will carry the colors of two first time starters at Daytonaprimary sponsor AFG Glass and their featured associate sponsor Sterling. Sterling, a member of the KOHLER plumbing family of companies, is the third largest full line plumbing products company in the United States. In selected events for the 2000 NASCAR Busch Series season, AFG will feature a different associate sponsor whose company utilizes AFG glass.

The NAPA Auto Parts 300 green flag will wave at 12:00 pm at Daytona International Speedway and will be aired live on CBS.
