Chevrolet Monte Carlo will not go to Daytona with a bare hood
and quarter panels. Joe Falk, team owner of LJ Racing,
announced today that KMC Telecom will sponsor his team for
2000 Daytona Speedweeks. LJ Racings No. 91 Chevrolet
Monte Carlo will also sport a new look at Daytona. The car
will be white, orange and purple to tie in the corporate colors of
sponsor KMC Telecom. We are thrilled to have a company of the caliber of KMC Telecom sponsoring our car and look forward to a long-term relationship," said Joe Falk.
Established in 1996, KMC Telecom is one of the fastest-growing facilities-based competitive local exchange companies in the United States. Its SONET fiber optics network operates in 39 markets throughout the Midwest and up the eastern seaboard. According to Mario A. Espin, City Director of KMC Telecom of Daytona Beach, "NASCAR and LJ Racing are truly valuable partners for KMC Telecom. Our company has chosen to participate in the Daytona 500 as a strategic marketing initiative into motor sports."
LJ Racings driver, Andy Hillenburg, consistently performed well during both preseason General Motors NASCAR Winston Cup Series tests at Daytona International Speedway.
Hillenburg turned in the fastest lap during the first, optional General Motors test at Daytona. He posted the fourth-fastest speed during the second, mandatory GM test. Hillenburgs lap of 186.834 mph was good enough for 13th overall (General Motors and Ford testing speeds combined.)
