(Mooresville, NC)--Some people believe in the saying,
"What goes up, must
come down." However, Jeff Green, driver of the No. 10 Nestl NesQuik
Chevrolet Monte Carlo, chooses to believe in the the saying, "The skys
the limit." Most drivers in the NASCAR Busch Series, Grand National
Division would gladly trade places with Green. He finished second in
the final point standings in 1999 and with NBS champion Dale Earnhardt,
Jr. switching to Winston Cup, all bets are on Green to win the 2000
title. But the 37-year-old Owensboro, KY native isnt content at all.Green hopes to better his perfomance one year ago at Daytona.
"I finished second last year at Daytona and I finished second in the final point standings," said Green. "So my goal is to win the season opener and then, hopefully, that will mean that I will win the year-end title based on how last year turned out. Sounds like a great plan, don t you think?"
Although Green returns to Daytona with the same crew preparing his race cars as last year, many things have changed.
"We have a lot of new elements to our race program this year," said Green. "Myself, crew chief, Harold Holly, and most of the same crew guys are returning this season, but we have a new team, ppc Racing, with a new car owner, John Bender, a new car number, No. 10 and a brand new sponsor, Nestl NesQuik. It seems like we changed everything but the kitchen sink, but it is truly for the best.
"We have everything in place to improve upon last years perfomance. I believe that we have the opportunity to win every race we enter this year. Dont get me wrong, Im not saying that we will win every one, but we have the ability to do so with the race package we have put together for the 2000 season."
By no means is Green overconfident about being favored to win the championship.
"Id rather be the underdog," said Green. "But it does feel nice to have people say, Were gonna have to beat that guy to win this thing. It makes all the hard work and effort we put in week in and week out rewarding."
