USAC: Seven USAC events set for Indianapolis Raceway Park in 2000, Five to be televised

INDIANAPOLIS - A total of seven United States Auto
Club events, five of which will be televised, are scheduled on the
lightning-fast .686-mile paved oval at Indianapolis Raceway Park in the
2000
season.With the 2000 schedule, IRP is the only track hosting all four USAC national championship open-wheel divisions, and the only paved track hosting the three national championship front-engined open-wheel divisions.
With two combined programs among the seven scheduled, IRP will present nine USAC race programs in 2000.
Kicking off the season for USAC competitors will be the Coca-Cola 100 on Saturday evening May 20, featuring the Coors Light USAC Silver Bullet Championship Series on the evening of pole qualifying for the 2000 Indianapolis 500-Mile Race.
One week later, the Budweiser Night Before the 500, the 55th running of one of America's oldest traditional racing events, will be presented on Saturday evening, May 27, featuring the MCI WorldCom USAC Midget Car Series and the rear-engine USAC Formula Ford 2000 Series.
Both USAC events in May will be televised by ESPN or ESPN2.
The Stoops Freightliner USAC National Sprint Car Championship Series makes its first appearance at IRP on Saturday evening, June 10 in the IRP Spring Sprint Challenge.
The sprinters return on Saturday evening, July 15 for another televised event, the Turbines Inc. Indiana Sprint Classic.
A second appearance for the Silver Bullet competitors kicks off the three-night 2000 Kroger SpeedFest(tm) on Wednesday evening, August 2 in the DuPont 100, again under the ESPN2 cameras.
Another traditional event, the Mel Kenyon Classic on Wednesday evening, August 23, will bring the midget car series back to the fast oval for another televised appearance.
The final USAC event of the year will be the Season Finale, a double-header featuring both the midget cars and sprinters on Saturday evening, September 16.
