PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- The North American Motorcycle Union
(NAMU), a
collaboration of the Canadian Motorcycle Association (CMA) and the
American Motorcyclist Association (AMA), will present its first
international championship event this spring, pitting the best trials
riders of the United States and Canada against each other for the North
American championship. The first annual NAMU Trials Championship will consist of two rounds: March 25-26, 2000 near Whistler, British Columbia, and April 1-2, 2000 in Goldendale, Wash. Riders competing for NAMU honors will attack the same trials sections as local national class competitors during the combined four days of international competition.
"We're very pleased the trials community has supported the championship," said NAMU and CMA President Marilynn Bastedo. "At first, we didn't know what interest we'd get, but we're encouraged by the enthusiasm for this year's event, and we hope that is ongoing. We're looking forward to a very successful series."
For more information, contact the AMA at (614) 856-1900 or the CMA at (905) 522-5705.
NAMU was established in 1995 under guidelines of the Federation Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) to assist in the development of motorcycling at the continental level through the FIM's member federations.
