Anderson (Ind.) Speedway, in cooperation with the Stoops Automotive Group, will host its first USAC "doubleheader" April 2, showcasing the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars and MCI WorldCom National Midget Cars in a program offering more than $40,000 in prize money.

Following hot on the heels of USAC's 2000 midwestern outdoor opener the previous night at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, featuring the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars in their annual "Don Branson/Jud Larson Classic," the 50-lap Anderson Speedway feature events will offer $6,000 (Sprint Cars) and $5,000 (Midget Cars) to win.

Through the years Anderson has hosted numerous USAC events but this will mark the club's first "doubleheader" at the 1/4-mile paved oval. Tony Elliott won last year's Stoops Freightliner Sprint Car race at Anderson, while MCI WorldCom National Midget Car races there went to Brian Gerster and Jason Leffler. Leffler holds the 1-lap track record for Midget Cars at 11.499 seconds, while Dave Steele holds the 1-lap record for Sprint Cars at 11.437, both records established in 1998.

"We're delighted to offer our participants this dynamic "doubleheader" at one of America's most competitive short tracks," said USAC Sprint/Midget Coordinator Jason Smith. "Both series have proven to be popular at Anderson in recent years and we look forward to going back."

Race organizers Rick Dawson and R.J. Scott are excited about the potential of this event for their facility. "It's going to be non-stop action, that's for sure," they echoed. USAC is noted for its competitive playing field and our fans have become familiar with their cars and stars. We expect a big turnout of fans and cars for what promises to be one of our keystone events of the 2000 season."
