DALLAS-Greg Ray, Plano, Texas-native and the 1999 Indy Racing League Champion, will be participating in the 2000 IROC Series. IROC invites selected drivers to participate in their series each year. This event is considered the championship series of the best oval racers in the world.
"I am honored that the True Value IROC series has invited me to participate," Ray states. "To compete against these other great drivers from the Busch Series, Winston Cup, and Indy Racing League will be an exciting opportunity. I'm proud to be the '99 IRL Champion and look forward to the 2000 IROC series. Hopefully, I can gain tremendous experience through this invitation and I'm very grateful to IROC for including me," concluded Ray.
IROC is a four-race series in which 12 drivers from NASCAR, CART, and IRL compete in identically prepared Pontiac Firebirds. The races for 2000 will be on February 18 at Daytona International Speedway, April 14 at Talladega Super Speedway, June 11 at Michigan Speedway and August 4 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
The entire field of drivers for IROC will be announced later this month. Currently, additional racecar drivers participating in the 2000 Series include: IRL's Mark Dismore and Eddie Cheever, and NASCAR's Jeff Gordon, Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart.
