ENGLEWOOD, Colo.AutoTrend Racing will make its BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series debut in 2000, with Rookie of the Year contender Joey Scarallo named as driver and Will Moody tapped as team manager.
AutoTrend Racing, based in North Lindhurst, N.Y., will field the No. 06 ROH Alloy Wheels Chevrolet Corvette for the 21-year-old Scarallo, with Moody returning to the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series after a two-year stint in the Indy Racing League.
Moody was team manager and engineer for Buz McCalls American Equipment Racing Trans-Am Series team for six years, capturing four consecutive Drivers Championships (Scott Sharp, 1991 and 1993, Jack Baldwin, 1992 and Scott Pruett, 1994).
"I felt the time was right to return to the Trans-Am Series, said Moody. I love competition and this Series is really on the up-swing. I have had a lot of success in the past and now I have the opportunity to bring another talented young driver to the forefront. Joey Scarallo has shown in karts, the U.S. F2000 National Championship and at the Team Green Academy that he has what it takes to go to the front."
Scarallo, of Hauppenge, N.Y., comes to the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series with three years of karting experience in the I.K.F., where he scored two National Championship titles, and three years competing in the U.S. F2000. Scarallo also received an invitation to the Team Green Academy in 1996.
"I am absolutely thrilled at the opportunity to drive and learn under Will's tutelage, said Scarallo. There is no one better to engineer my car, and I'm not going to let him or my team downI have a steep learning curve coming from the U.S. F2000, but I feel that because of Will, I can still challenge for Rookie of the Year."
