IRL: Veteran cheif mechanic King joins TeamXtreme

ROCKWALL, Texas - Veteran John King recently joined TeamXtreme Racing to serve as chief mechanic for driver John Hollansworth Jr. in the 2000 Indy Racing League season.

King will oversee the preparation and tuning of the #42 Lycos G Force driven by Hollansworth, one of the top Indy Racing rookies of the 1999 season. King already has joined the team at its Rockwall, Texas, shop.

"Were ready to give it a go, and its nice to be back in Texas," King said. King, one of the most respected mechanics in Indy Racing, has Texas roots. He worked many years for A.J. Foyt Racing, based in Houston. King served as chief mechanic for Kenny Brack in 1998 when Brack won the Indy Racing League championship while driving for Foyt.

"TeamXtreme is very proud to announce that John King has joined TeamXtreme to head up the #42 operation as chief mechanic," said John Lopes, TeamXtreme general manager. "John will also assume multiple management duties for the team as we continue to grow."

King moves to TeamXtreme after serving as Robby Unsers chief mechanic for Team Pelfrey last season.

The hiring of King follows TeamXtremes decision in late 1999 to expand into a multicar operation and move chief mechanic Rob Stark and engineer Mark Weida to the #88 G Force driven by rookie Airton Dare.

"Adding John King to our already impressive roster of crew members is exciting," Hollansworth said. "He and Rob Stark are developing a system that will benefit both teams."

TeamXtreme is undergoing extensive private testing this month in preparation for the season-opening Delphi Indy 200 on Jan. 29 at Walt Disney World Speedway.
