PacWest Mercedes CART driver Mauricio Gugelmin found eight reindeer insufficient to support his role as Santa in the second annual CART Cares 1999 Holiday Food Drive.

"Big Mo," who set the world closed-course speed record (240.942 mph) in his Mercedes-Benz-powered Champ Car in 1997, towed Santa's sleigh into Indianapolis' Monument Circle Dec. 17th in a specially designed version of his racing machine. Donations of food and cash collected over the past month from the CART sponsor community and the public were presented to Gleaner's, a partner of America's Second Harvest. The food and cash gifts will assist central Indiana agencies that provide food to the needy around the state.
