NHRA: Herbert's engine explodes; Spectators injured at Pomona

POMONA, Calif. -- NHRA track emergency officials reported
14 spectators
received only minor injuries from debris when the engine on Doug Herbert's
Snap-on Tools dragster suffered an explosion during Friday's Top Fuel
qualifying session at the 35th annual Automobile Club of Southern
California
NHRA Finals at Pomona Raceway. Of those receiving minor injuries, 10 were
transported to local hospitals for observation. Herbert was not injured.
The
cause of the explosion is being investigated by the NHRA Technical
Services
Department.
