GREENSBORO, N.C. --- American Speed Association standout
Derrick Gilchrist
of Raleigh, N.C., will attempt to make his second start in the NASCAR
Busch
Series, Grand National Division at Homestead-Miami Speedway on November
13.
Gilchrist will drive the No. 15 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet. Gilchrist made his NASCAR Busch Series debut earlier this year in the Oakwood Homes Chevrolet at Indianapolis Raceway Park. Gilchrist was running seventh at IRP when he was the victim of an accident and was unable to continue the race.
"I'm really excited about the opportunity to run for Andy Petree Racing again," said Gilchrist. "It's a great organization and I enjoyed working with the team at IRP. We hope to improve on our qualifying effort and the main thing we want to accomplish is to stay on the lead lap and finish the race. We're taking the same car we ran at IRP and I felt really comfortable in that car."
Gilchrist has had five starts at Homestead-Miami Speedway in the All-Pro Series. He has never finished outside of the top five there, and his last start at Miami resulted in a second-place finish.
Gilchrist accumulated three wins in his first year in the American Speed Association in 1999. He moved up to ASA from the All Pro Series where he finished second in the points in 1998. That season, he drove to two victories, three poles and 11 top five finishes. Gilchrist had six wins in two seasons of All Pro competition.
