Shane Scully of Encino, Calif. and Walt Johnson of Simi Valley, Calif. captured USAC feature victories in Saturday night's "doubleheader" racing program at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. The USAC Western Sprint Cars and MCI WorldCom Midget Cars combine for this Saturday night's "doubleheader" at the Irwindale (Calif.) Speedway.

Scully hopes to close further on MCI WorldCom Western Midget Car point leader Marc DeBeaumont when the Midget Cars compete at Irwindale's 1/2-mile paved oval Saturday. Scully now trails DeBeaumont by just 49 points after winning the 30-lap Ventura race in his Your Life Vitamins/Embassy Suites VanDyne. He caught Bobby Boone on the 19th lap and led the final 12 laps for the victory, his second this year. Mike English finished second, ahead of Boone, Brian Stanfill and Sleepy Tripp. DeBeaumont finished 12th.

Walt Johnson won Saturday night's 20-lap MCI WorldCom TQ Midget Car feature at Ventura, taking the lead on the final corner of the final lap from Josh Wise, who finished second. West Evans, Randi Pankratz and James Styer rounded out the "top-five" at the checkered flag.

Wise, of Riverside, Calif., is back in the TQ Midget Car point lead after his runner-up Ventura finish, leading Greg Edenholm by just 10 points going into the November 20 TQ Midget Car race at Bakersfield, Calif. Edenholm flipped during the Ventura feature and was listed ninth in the official finish.

Bud Kaeding of Campbell, Calif. will try to return to victory lane at Irwindale Saturday after having his five-race track victory streak halted October 16 by Todd Ellison. Kaeding leads the 1999 USAC Western Sprint Car Series standings.
