Indy Lights: Six Dorricott Racing Team members recognized at 1999 C.A.M. Awards

FONTANA, Calif. - Six "behind the scenes" heroes
from Dorricott Racing were honored Thursday, Oct. 28, at the year-end
Championship Association of Mechanics (CAM) Champ Car and Indy Lights
Awards party, presented by SNAP-ON.
CAM celebrated its 10th season in 1999 and once again closed its Champ Car and Indy Lights seasons by recognizing outstanding performances from its members. A total of 15 Indy Lights CAM members were honored including five for their line of specialty and a 10-member "All-Star" team.
As in past years, the CAM Awards were voted by peers. This year, in addition to a general membership vote, CAM formed a special committee entitled the CAM Awards Selection Committee. The Committee was composed of esteemed members of the CART and Indy Lights racing community and CAM Board Members. The Committee made a firm commitment to assess each candidate's performance and voted strictly based on each award's required merit.
The first Dorricott team member to be honored was David Hughes, of Kamloops, B.C., Canada, as the Dayton/CAM Indy Lights Tire Specialist of the Year. Dayton tire specialists, Dayton technicians, engineers, fellow CAM tire specialists, and the CAM selection committee recognized Hughes for his high standard of professionalism. Dayton Tires Motorsports Manager Joe Barbieri presented Hughes with a $1,000 award check from Dayton Tires.
Ray Minato, of Bright's Grove, Ont., Canada, was named PI Research/CAM Data Specialist of the Year. The award recognizes outstanding performance in data acquisition and was voted upon by fellow data specialists and the CAM Selection Committee. Minato also received a selection of software valued at $1,000.
Three Dorricott teammates were named to the SNAP-ON/CAM Indy Lights All Star Team, which is composed of 10 crew members and was voted by the member Chief Mechanics and the CAM Selection Committee. Fritz Kroyer, of Bakersfield, Calif., was named the series all-star Fabricator. Dave Smith, of San Rafael, Calif., was named all-star Chief Mechanic, while the series Team Manager award went to Shane Seneviratne, of Pasadena, Calif.
John Martin Jr., of Irvine, Calif., was presented the prestigious Earl's Performance Products/ CAM Outstanding Season Award. The award was decided based on the recipient's display of dedication and preparation throughout the entire season - regardless of team size or available equipment. Two committees chose Martin Jr. including a committee composed of Indy Lights officials and the CAM Awards Selection Committee.
