NASCAR WCUP: Kenny Wallace has high hopes after career-high superspeedway performance

CHARLOTTE, N.C.- After securing a career-best superspeedway qualifying effort by placing his Square D Chevrolet third on the grid for last Sunday's Winston 500 at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway, Kenny Wallace drove to a career-best superspeedway finish when he crossed the stripe in fifth place. It was a tenacious drive that put Wallace in elite company. Along with Dale Earnhardt, Dale Jarrett, Ricky Rudd and Ward Burton, Wallace will join those four drivers in representing the latest ensemble of No Bull 5 competitors who will be vying for a million dollar bonus from Winston if they win the 2000 Daytona 500.

"My most favorite thing about this Winston Cup deal is the stats, and when it comes time for Daytona, I'm going to be a No Bull man," said Wallace. "It makes me really proud that I'll be able to fly the No Bull colors at Daytona (Fla.) for my car owner Andy Petree. That's huge - for him and for Square D.

Square D Chevrolet driver Kenny Wallace always looks forward to racing at North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham. But for the crew members of Andy Petree Racing (APR) who make up the Square D Racing Team, they've been chomping at the bit all season to get to Rockingham for the fall event. That's because Rockingham is home to the Union 76 World Pit Crew Challenge - a battle for supremacy between the over-the-wall crews in the NASCAR Winston Cup Series.

When APR crew chief and front tire changer Jimmy Elledge, front tire carrier B arry Deel, jackman Jerry Painter, rear tire changer Tony Enderle, rear tire carrier Randy Rice, gasman Barry Price and catch can man Charley McDonell jump over the pit wall to change four tires and fill the Square D Chevy with fuel, it will mark the first time that a Square D-sponsored race team has competed in the pit crew challenge.

The same seven guys who jumped off the pit wall in Daytona (Fla.) for the season-opener are the same group of guys who will compete in the pit crew challenge. This is a first for not only for Square D, but also for Wallace.

"This is the first year in my Winston Cup career that I've had the same group of guys pitting my car week-in and week-out all year long," said Wallace. "It shows and that's why we're in the challenge. Our pit stops are consistently quick. I can't tell you how many times I've left the pits in better track position than where I was when I came in. My guys are the best in the business. Saturday's going to be a big day for them."
