Parker Takes Modified Mini Special
Written By Gene Crane Auburndale, FL- In only his second outing in his brand new Ford Thunderbird Ron Lofquist won the 25 lap Limited Late Model feature Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway. It was Lofquist's second start with the mount and capped off a successful night that also included a third in the feature and a heat race win in his Street Stock racer. Lofquist led the field to the green but the race was quickly put under its first caution of the night as the field crossed start/finish to complete the first lap. Wendell Guy and Jimmy Castleberry tangled and both cars suffered significant damage as they slammed into each other and the outside retaining wall. Several other cars received damage in the crash with Westley Bass's ride the most seriously injured of those which remained. Lofquist maintained a 3 to 5 car length advantage over second place Mitch Hawk Jr. the rest of the way to claim the win. Dave Dunkin charged through the field to finish third with defending champion Richard Elkins Jr. and Keith Simpson rounding out the top five.
Duane Parker took his Mustang to the checkers in the special 35 lap modified mini Stock feature. It was Parker's third feature win of the season as he won with relative ease over defending division champion Randy Storer and Wayne Weaver. Bobby Judah and Scott Sharpe completed the first five finishers.
Three wide racing in both heat and feature action provided much excitement in the Street Stock division. Jason Bennett was able snag both a heat race win and the win in the 25 lap feature in spite of rain attempting to interrupt the nights activities. Point leader James Wright III also doubled with second place finishes in heat and feature racing. Lofquist was third with Michael King and Billy Jones fourth and fifth.
The 15 lap V8 Pure Stock feature saw Josh Haranda take both his heat and the feature wins. Bob Gorsuch and Troy Lacey also mirrored their heat race performance in the feature by placing second and third respectively. Jason Todd and current point leader Greg Bacon were fourth and fifth.
Chris Narramore posted his seventh feature win of the season in the 15 lap 4 Cylinder Pure Stock feature. Matthew Craig was second followed by Randy King, Scott Taylor and Jeff Bews.
Racing continues next Saturday night October 23rd with all of the regular divisions in competition including Limited Late Model, Street Stock, Modified Mini Stock, V8 Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder Pure Stock divisions. A special night is scheduled for Halloween weekend, which will feature the Kids Club, Top Cops, the Allison Legacy cars, Super Mini Cup cars and all five regular divisions. Plus the October 30th race date will include a Halloween Costume contest for the kids. Gates open at 5 PM and racing starts at 7 PM.
