CHARLOTTE, NC: A.J. Foyt announced today that his newly formed NASCAR Winston Cup team will utilize the Pontiac Grand Prix for the 2000 racing season. Driver announcements have not been made. Foyt made the announcement while visiting the Lowe's Motor Speedway.

"We're evaluating a lot of people right now,'' Foyt said. "We'll find somebody who knows how to drive a race car and who wants to win. That's all I've ever asked for in a driver. And I know there are still guys out there like that."

Foyt continued, "When it came down to making the hard decision, I stuck with what I knew. All of my other race cars are GM products."

"We won the Indy 500 this year with the GM Oldsmobile (motor). GM and I have won big in the past and, now I'm looking to win big in the future with the Pontiac Grand Prix."

Conseco, one of the Nation's largest insurance and financial service companies, will be the sponsor for Foyt's NASCAR Winston Cup team. Foyt and Conseco have also had a long relationship in the Indy Racing League.

With the help of funding from Conseco, Foyt has already hired personnel for his new team. The team manager will be Waddell Wilson. The crew chief is Terry Wooten. The engine builder for the team will be Gregg Wilson, with Bobby Watson as the fabricator. All of the men hired are NASCAR veterans. The team will work out of a race shop in Mooresville, North Carolina.

"We're building a team that can pull off the near miracle we need to get Team Conseco ready to qualify and run strong in the Daytona 500" said Foyt, a former Daytona 500 winner himself.
