AUSTIN, TEXAS - Mall.com, the premier Internet mall
developer, announced today it will offer Indy racing fans a chance to win
$25,000 with the Mall.com 500 Net Speed Challenge.
The contest supports the company's recently announced title sponsorship of the October 17, 1999 Mall.com 500 Indy car race. The event is the championship
race of the Pep Boys Indy Racing League and will be held at Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth, Texas.
The Mall.com 500 Net Speed Challenge offers contestants a chance to win $25,000 for naming, in order, the top eight finishers of the Mall.com 500 race. In
addition, prizes will be offered to the three contestants who have the highest point standings for their combined driver scores, based on the Indy Racing League scoring system.
"This is a chance for fans to get involved with other aspects of the race beyond just what they see happening on the track," said Mall.com President and CEO Lawrence F. Latham. "In the process, we hope this will also bring more
fans to the sport and give them a vested interested in the outcome of the race."
Contestants can register for free by logging on to the Mall.com website at www.mall.com. Once registered, visitors can choose from a list of drivers and place them in their predicted finish order.
Entries must be received by 1 p.m. (CST) on Sunday, October 17th. The winners will be notified via e-mail on Monday, October 18, once the official standings are determined. Winners are chosen based on the order of finish points earned by drivers in the Mall.com 500 according to the Indy Racing League scoring system. Full details and contest rules can be found on the Mall.com website.
As an added feature, contestants can form and join chat groups to discuss race-related topics with other enthusiasts around the country. Once registered, the site also allows contestants to compare their predictions with those of other participants.
Sponsorship of this contest and the race marks the latest in a series of progressive steps Mall.com has taken leading to the upcoming launch of the company's Internet property. Mall.com was established in October 1998 in response to increasing consumer
