TRANS-AM: Gentilozzi on pole for Houston Trans-Am series race

HOUSTON - Paul Gentilozzi scored his 15th career pole to front a 28-car field in Saturdays BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series race on the streets of Houston, Texas.

Gentilozzi, driving the No. 1 Johnson Controls/HomeLink Ford Mustang Cobra, posted a top time of 1:11.710 (76.658 mph), while Johnny Miller IV, in the No. 64 Automationdirect.com Chevrolet Corvette, was second-fastest at 1:12.044. Chris Neville, in the No. 88 Tommy Bahama Mustang Cobra, qualified third, followed by Brian Simo, in the No. 2 Valvoline Mustang Cobra, and Michael Lewis, in the No. 12 AmeriSuites Mustang Cobra, qualified fifth.

"We did three laps and didnt want to put more laps on the tires than we had to," said Gentilozzi. "Having Brian (Simo) behind you is never an advantagehe had a little problem with the car in qualifying but I know hell be right there in the race."

The 62-lap, 94.67-mile BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am 100, part of the Texaco Grand Prix of Houston, takes the green flag at 3:30 p.m. (CDT), and will be televised with same-day delayed television coverage on The Speedvision Network at 9:30 p.m. (EDT).
