IRL: Eddie Cheever Notes and Quotes, Las Vegas

25 September 1999

"We are having a very hard time finding the balance. (Cheever's clocked the 1.5-mile oval 26.693 seconds at an average speed of 202.300 mph). Because of the minimal banking, Vegas is known to be a track where it can be very difficult to make the car handle well and we are getting our fair share of it today. Tires play an important part in making that we are still sorting the new tires out. We've elected to do a lot of full tank runs early in the weekend to be ready for Sunday. And that we shall be."

NOTES

Team Cheever Honored At 1999 Shelby American/CAM Indy Racing League Awards. Two crew members of Team Cheever were recognized at last night industry awards. Transport Driver and Tire Specialist, Rob Channell received the Goodyear/CAM Tire Specialist of the Year award while Crew Chief, Dane Harte, was voted onto the Snap-On/CAM IRL All Star Team as one of four top mechanics.

Cheever to Join "Construction Celebration" at Chicago. On Tuesday, September 28th, Eddie Cheever will help celebrate the groundbreaking of the new 1.5-mile oval at Joliet. Cheever will join IRL Founder & IMS president, Tony George, driver Scott Goodyear, and NASCAR's Bill France, Dale Earnhardt and Dale Jarrett in the festivities.

Rain Delay. Rain has delayed Team Cheever fabricator, Gary Frost, from attempting to hold onto his family's 1998 Bonneville Land Speed Record of 233m.p.h. Gary and his father hold three separate World Land Speed Records on the salt flats of Bonneville (1995, 1997, 1998). The event has been rescheduled to mid-October.
