Trans-Am: Venues for 2000 BF Goodrich Tires Trans-Am Series Announced

THE TRANS-AM SERIES JOINS THE ALMS ON FIVE DATES

ENGLEWOOD, Colo.--Five venues on the BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series 2000 schedule have been set, all co-feature events on American Le Mans Series weekends.

North Americas longest-running road racing series will kick off its 35th year of action April 1-2 at the Lowes Motor Speedway in Concord, N.C., the Trans-Am Series second appearance there and the first since 1981.

"Combining the American Le Mans Series and the Trans-Am Series for doubleheader weekends is yet another effort to bring the fans the best road racing entertainment in America," said Bill Donaldson, American Le Mans Series Executive Director.

The four additional ALMS weekends will be late-season events beginning September 2-3 at the Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth/Dallas, Texas, the first Trans-Am Series race at the new (1997) facility. The Trans-Am Series last raced in the Fort Worth/Dallas area in 1996, the 11th series contest in Texas (including the Dallas Grand Prix, Green Valley in North Richland Hills and the Texas World Speedway in College Station).

Following the TMS contest will be a return to Road Atlanta in Braselton, Ga., for the Petit Le Mans weekend, September 30-October 1, the 12th (and second consecutive) Trans-Am Series race at Road Atlanta.

Next up will be the Trans-Am Series return to the Laguna Seca Raceway in Monterey, Calif., October 14-15, the seventh series race at the famed circuit and first since 1982. The fifth ALMS weekend event will be another west coast venue, November 4-5 in San Diego, Calif., as part of the second annual San Diego Grand Prixthe first time the Trans-Am Series will have competed in San Diego.

"The 2000 schedule will be the strongest and best balanced calendar the Trans-Am Series has ever had," said Scott Rittinger, Trans-Am Series General Manager. "These five venues are each tremendous events. Were very pleased to be able to bring the strength of the Trans-Am Series to these weekends, and add two all-new venues to our schedule, come back to two venues the Trans-Am Series hasnt visited in some time, and to return to Road Atlanta on a great event date."

The remaining venues/dates on the planned 13 to 14-race 2000 BFGoodrich Tires Trans-Am Series calendar, including a sensational season finale, will be released when details are available.
