CART: Chevrolet joins Hawaii Super Prix as official car and truck of $10 Million Event

HONOLULU -- The Hawaiian Super Prix is saying "Aloha" to a new partner for the inaugural race. Chevrolet has joined the worlds richest automobile race as the Official Vehicle of Hawaiian Super Prix I."We are pleased to be associated with such a high-profile event and are excited about being part of the first race in history to award $5 million to a race winner," said Michael Colleran, Market Area Manager at General Motors, Chevrolet Division, West Region. "This is a great opportunity for us to showcase our vehicles and to provide great high-performance entertainment for our customers in an exotic and exciting environment."
The inaugural event is set for November 11-13 at Kalaeloa Airport in Honolulu (formerly Barbers Point Naval Air Station) on the Hawaiian island of Oahu.
"Chevrolet is a welcome addition to the Hawaiian Super Prix," said Phil Heard, Chief Operating Officer and General Manager of the Hawaiian Super Prix. "One of our first sponsorship objectives was to secure an automotive company to provide the many vehicles necessary to put on an event of this magnitude.
"With a lineup that includes high-quality cars, trucks and SUVs, Chevrolet has the product diversity that enables us to utilize their vehicles to accomplish a wide variety of tasks.
"This agreement also demonstrates our ability to move forward and stage a first-class event."
As part of the agreement, Chevrolet will supply vehicles on a year-round basis for the Hawaiian Super Prix, including a fleet of 65 cars and trucks for use during the event. In return, Chevrolet will receive track signage, display space in the Expo, ticket packages and other on-site benefits. Chevrolet will also utilize its sponsorship to provide ticket giveaways for its three local dealers on Oahu.
The Hawaiian Super Prix is an invitational, all-star racing event featuring the Top 12 points finishing teams in the 1999 CART FedEx Championship Series, plus four additionally invited at-large entries. The 16 drivers will be competing for an unprecedented $10 million prize, the richest in the history of the sport. The winner will collect an equally-unprecedented top prize of $5 million.
