USAC: 'Simpson Super Seven' Seek $50,000 bonus Saturday at Indianapolis Raceway Park
15 September 1999
Seven USAC drivers have the opportunity to win a $50,000 cash bonus posted by Simpson Safety Equipment this Saturday when the Stoops Freightliner Sprint Cars and MCI WorldCom Midget Cars share the billing in IRP's "Arby's Season Finale." The $50,000 bonus will be paid if any of the seven drivers can win both 30-lap feature events. The "Simpson Super 7," who earned their shot at the bonus through their performances in USAC races at IRP this season, are Dave Darland, Eric Gordon, Tracy Hines, Jason Leffler, Ryan Newman, Robbie Rice and Dave Steele. So far, Newman, Hines and Steele are confirmed with rides for both series.
Newman and Darland have both won in both series this season, but Newman is the only driver to win more than once at IRP, taking both the "Night Before the 500" and "Mel Kenyon Classic" Midget Car races. Hines and Steele have captured the two IRP Sprint Car victories in 1999.
Practice for Saturday night's events starts at 5 pm, followed by qualifying at 6:30 and racing at 8.
