PARTS Trucks: St. Augustine Event Postponed Due to Hurricane Floyd
15 September 1999
PARTS Officials announced today (9/15) that the PARTS Pro Truck Series event scheduled for this weekend has been postponed due to the threat of Hurrican Floyd. The tenative make up date is October 16."We have kept a close watch on all the reports and have been in contact with various weather agencies and felt it would be in the best interest of all, to postpone the event," said Larry Evans, president of PARTS.
"We have consulted with the St. Augustine Speedway track officials and everyone agrees that it would be advisible to postpone the race. Our main concern is for the safety of the competitors and fans."
While weather officials are unsure at the current time where the hurricane will make landfall, they all agree that the east coast of Florida will receive some damaging wind and rain associated with the storm.
With possible power outages for as much as a week, and the potential for structual damage, officials are being on the cautious side.
"We want to race, but there are just too many questions that remain unanswered at this time," Evans continued. "We wanted to wait as long as we could to make a decision, but have to consider travel plans by the teams also."
The next race on the PARTS Pro Truck Schedule is Oct. 2 at USA International Speedway in Lakeland, Fla. The event will be run in conjunction with the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series on the 3/4-mile track.
