Tracks: Dunkin Drives Away With Late Model Win at Auburndale

14 September 1999

Auburndale, FL-- Veteran Dave Dunkin motored by leader Ray Cuzzone on lap 10 of the 25 lap Limited Late Model feature to post the win Saturday night at Auburndale Speedway. The win marks the second time Dunkin has won the honor of parking his number 71 in the Winner's Circle during the 1999 season. Harold Cannon in only his third outing of the season gave chase but could not deny Dunkin the win. Cuzzone held on for the third place check. Tommy King withstood the challenge of Von Pope for fourth and Pope had to settle for fifth.

Allen Davis led wire to wire in the Dwarf Car Racing Association feature. Davis won over second place Bob Hoffman and third place Bill Burback, both utilizing pickup truck style bodies. John Godwin and Dennis Archinal rounded out the top five.

The 25 lap Street Stock feature was won by Dave Williamson who made it a father and son celebration for the evening as son Aaron had already won in the Kids Club racing. Williamson went all 25 laps unchallenged to finish ahead of Michael King, Jeff McCaw, Brian Donahue and Jim Orisich.

Randy Storer, defending champion of the Modified Mini Stock division, scored his first win of the 1999 season by going wire to wire in the 25 lap feature. Duane Parker and Jason Rendell were second and third followed by second place in points, Tony Davidson. Points leader, Mike Rudder, came into the night with a 19 point lead but was involved in a big crash on the backstretch on the opening lap and retired to finish 18th. The poor finish drops Rudder to second in points and Tony Davidson takes command with only a 9 point lead.

Willie Lacey came away with the win in the 20 lap V8 Pure Stock feature. Sam Cressman posted his number 97 in second followed by Leon Foy, Bob Gorsuch and David Thompson.

Chris Narramore made win number 11 for the season by showing the way in the 15 lap 4 Cylinder Pure Stock feature. Scott Taylor came home second with Randy King, Matthew Craig and Tim McKenzie in tow.

Super Mini Cup cars were also in action and Chris Fontaine took the checkers over Terry Tullis and Jack Martin.

The Racing for Kids Club displayed their talents before the crowd with Sean Bass celebrating his 13th birthday and a win in the Junior division. Aaron Williamson led the way in the Senior division.

Racing continues next Saturday night September 18th with the regular line-up of Limited Late Model, Street Stock, Modified Mini Stock, V8 Pure Stock and 4 Cylinder Pure Stock divisions. Grandstand gates open at 5 PM and racing starts at 7.
