USAC: Campbell wins at New Castle, Finishes 2nd in Speedrome points

14 September 1999

Daryl Campbell of Indianapolis, Ind. drove his AFCO Shocks & Springs/Jack's Frozen Pizza VW to victory in Saturday night's 40-lap Midget car feature at the Mount Lawn Speedway in New Castle, Ind. The race served as the series finale for the 1999 Indianapolis Speedrome Midget Car Series championship and Campbell's win propelled him to the runner-up ranking behind champion Michael Lang, who did not compete at New Castle.

Campbell led all 40 laps to beat Gregg Cory, Andy Anderson, Norm Young and Jeff Richardson on the 4/10-mile paved oval. Cory and Campbell won preliminary 15-lap heat races.

The win was Campbell's fifth in the series, compared to Lang's seven triumphs, and pushed him past Norm Young in the final point tally. Young wound up third in the final standings, ahead of Cory and David Fuhrman.
