NASCAR WCUP: Richmond Post Race Notes and Quotes, Dale Jarrett

12 September 1999

Dale Jarrett - Quality Care Service/Ford Credit Taurus: (finished 3rd)

"It was a long night. We were in pretty good shape, just could never get it through the center of the corner like I needed to. Then we got it pretty good and we got tapped. I don't know what should surprise me about that and who did it. We fell back, and then the guys just pulled out a great pit stop and that's what did it. We were a lot better there on the last run, but the pit stop was just incredible and that was the key. We did what we had to do."

WHAT DID YOU HAVE TO DO TO PUT THE CAR RIGHT? YOU WERE A 7TH TO 10TH PLACE CAR THE FIRST HALF OF THE RACE?

"We were just too tight in the center. It would have probably been pretty good on long green runs, but we didn't get any really long runs. We had to get it freed up to get going on fresh tires, and we raised the track bar quite a bit was the biggest thing to adjust the air pressure."

STEWART WAS PRETTY MUCH IMPOSSIBLE TO CATCH.

"Yeah, I didn't see him much. He was way out in front of me. He's been trying to win. He did a great job and I want to congratulate him."

THE POINTS RACE IS LOOKING BETTER TOO.

"We did what we had to do. That's exactly what we needed."

IF WE HAD TO START LOOKING AT THOSE TWO GIBBS' CARS WHERE SHOULD WE START LOOKING?

"The Pontiacs have got a lot of spoiler on them. If they can't win, then there is something wrong. We did what we needed to do. We didn't have the best car, and when Mark had problems we had to slow down and make sure we finished."

WERE YOU BETTER ON LONG RUNS?

"We were going to be better on long runs, but we never did have any of those so we adjusted it for shorter runs, and that's what did it."
