NASCAR Trucks: Hansen ready for first appearance at Richmond

8 September 1999

Hansen At Richmond: Scott Hansen, driver of the No. 52 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet, will make his first start at Richmond International Raceway this weekend.

"Although I have never even seen the track at Richmond before, I don't think it will be too much of a disadvantage," said Hansen. "My best finish this year was third at Nazareth and I had never been there before either. Whenever I return to a track that I had won at in another series, I try to do similar things that made the car go fast, but the trucks handle much differently that anything else I have ever raced. It helped me before not having any preconceived ideas about the way the truck is supposed to handle, so hopefully we will have the same results again."

Equipment: The Oakwood Homes Racing team is taking the same truck to Richmond that qualified seventh earlier this year at Milwaukee and finished 10th at Bristol.

"We are bringing this particular truck to Richmond because it is Scott's favorite truck," said crew chief Wally Brown. "This truck reacts to every change we make and it is the most consistent handling truck we have in our stable."

1998 Statistics: The Oakwood Homes Racing team started ninth and finished 10th in last year's race at Richmond International Raceway.

"The Schrader Racing team had a really strong run last year at Richmond," said Brown. "We qualified well and had a top-10 finish last year, so I feel confident that we will perform well at Richmond. Even though Scott has never competed at Richmond, our notes from last year should help us dial in the setup and give Scott some assistance in getting around the track fast."

Happy Birthday: Nothing would please crew chief Wally Brown more than to celebrate his 26th birthday in victory lane. Brown's birthday is September 9th, the same day as the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series event at Richmond International Raceway. The Oakwood Homes Racing team has yet to visit victory lane in 1999, so Brown will wish for a victory when he blows out his candles on his birthday cake!
