ARCA: Chad Guinn Takes Owosso ARCA Trucks
7 September 1999
Ovid, MI, - Chad Guinn drove his Sonic Expediting Ford Ranger to victory lane Saturday Night at Owosso Speedway scoring his second consecutive ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series victory in only his fourth attempt in the new tour.Guinn reeled in late-race leader and four-time winner Aaron Hulings with 21 laps remaining in the 100 lap contest and crossed the final stripe two lengths ahead of Hulings who held on for second in front of Jack Weethee, current point leader Bill Withers and Tully Esterline, the last car on the lead lap, to complete the top five finishers.
"I cant believe it," said Guinn in victory lane. "Were really getting the hang of this new series. Now weve got one win on the dirt and now one here on the pavement. The handle was perfect on the truck all night. I could drive it anywhere. Fortunately for us, we got to drive it to victory lane. Were going to Salem next week but Im going to give up the seat in favor of Tracy Leslie. I want to keep my rookie status alive for next year so we can run for rookie of the year and maybe even the championship."
Troy Marciniak led at the onset for 10 rounds before Jeff Speakman slipped underneath for the top-spot. Speakman opened up a straightaway advantage and looked like the early favorite to win until his right front wheel broke sending the Piqua, Ohio driver spinning into the path of David Clay eliminating both drivers, who were uninjured, from competition. Hulings then took command and stretched his advantage to five lengths before Guinn, who started eighth, tracked down the leader with laps winding down. Guinn finally overhauled Hulings in traffic to the high side in turns three and four and drove on to victory lane.
Weethee worked hard for his third place finish as the Grove City, Ohio veteran battled back from a flip in an earlier practice session caused by a broken spindle to qualifying 3rd fast for the main event.
The next appearance for the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will be this Saturday, September 11th at Salem Speedway as a prelude to the ARCA Bondo/Mar-Hyde 200 the following day.
