* Dale Earnhardt won the Goodys Headache Powder 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway, his second victory in 1999. It is his 73rd career victory in 630 NASCAR Winston Cup races. His most recent victory came at Talladega in April, 14 races earlier. It was his 15th top-10 finish, including five top-fives, this season. He remains in sixth place on the all-time winners list.
* Earnhardt became the 10th different race winner in the last 10 NASCAR Winston Cup short-track races.
* This was Earnhardts ninth victory in 41 races at Bristol and his third consecutive top-10 finish here. His last victory at Bristol was in April 1994 and his last victory in the night race here was in 1988.
* Earnhardt led four times for 47 laps. He did not lead the most laps.
* This is the first night-race victory at Bristol for Chevrolet since Terry Labonte won in 1995.
* Ford continues to lead the manufacturers points race with 10
victories
and 160 points. Chevrolet has eight victories and 146 points while
Pontiac
has five victories and 131 points.

* The NASCAR Winston Cup Leader bonus will be worth $40,000 next week at Darlington.
* Dale Jarrett holds a 213-point lead over second-place Mark Martin, the first time that he has not extended his points lead in the last 11 races. His 38th-place finish is his season-worst finish and ended his streak of 19 consecutive finishes of 11th or better.
* Jimmy Spencer (second) scored his fourth top-10 finish this season. It is his best finish since he finished second at Talladega in April 1998. It is his fifth top-10 finish in 18 races at Bristol. Ricky Rudd (third) scored his second top-10 finish and his season-best finish in 1999.
* Jeff Gordon (fourth) scored his 15th top-five finish in 1999 and his ninth finish of sixth or better in his last 10 races at Bristol.
* Tony Stewart (fifth) led 225 of the 500 laps raced, the most of all drivers. It was the third time that he has led the most laps in a race this season and was the highest finishing rookie for the 22nd time this season.
* Bobby Labonte has led in 19 of the 23 races this season. He did not lead in either road-course race nor either race at Bristol.
